Hurricane Debby hit Florida’s Gulf Coast early Monday as a Category One storm with 80 mph winds, causing widespread power outages for over 250,000 people.
The National Hurricane Center warns of dangerous storm surges up to 10 feet above ground and predicts severe flooding due to historic rainfall.
Debby will bring 6-12 inches of rain to Florida and 20-30 inches to Georgia and South Carolina over the next few days.
Florida has ordered mandatory evacuations in Citrus County and voluntary evacuations in eight other counties.
Georgia and South Carolina have declared states of emergency, while President Biden has approved emergency aid for Florida.
Governor Ron DeSantis has activated 3,000 National Guard members to assist with the storm response.
